GM Kjetil A. Lie

In the spring 2005 Kjetil A. Lie (25) became Norway's 8th GM, and the first one living outside Oslo. He finished his third norm by making 50% coming in as a substitute in the top group in Drammen International Chess Fesival 2004-05, beating stars like Bartlomiej Macieja and Victor Korchnoi. Lie is a creative and entertaining attacking player who has supprised many a higher rated player, and is among the few with a positive score against Magnus Carlsen. 2006 will become an exciting and important chess year for Lie, who after becoming a GM now will try to stabilize his results on a 2500+ level. Lie took 5 out of 9 on second board for Norway in last years European Teams Chapionship, and will in May visit Turin to get in shape for the Midnight Sun Challenge by playing with Calsen and Agdestein on the strongest Norwegian team ever in the Chess Olympics.
